We have several volunteer tasks available, from fundraising, help with social media, transports, and various types of fostering from overnight and emergency overnights, to shorter term like vacation fostering for other volunteers over a weekend or up to a week, to more long term fostering which could range for a few months to a year or longer for hospice IGs that need more long term care.
Foster parents provide a loving family environment for fosters, take them to veterinary appointments, and learn about the personality, behaviors and training needs of the IG in their care. When you need our help, inform the Rescue Representative of transportation or scheduling issues so the Representative can make arrangements.
Foster parents do not have to pay for medical care for their fosters. We set up direct billing with all our veterinarians. If you are in need of a martingale or limited slip collar, leash, belly bands, kennel, bed, clothing or other items for your foster, and do not have extras to share with them while they are with you, the Rescue Representative can make arrangements and seek donations for these items.
Fostering should be an enjoyable experience that is not a burden so that you will want to foster in the future! Fostering can be an emotional experience, but it is a fulfilling one. When you foster an Iggy you save a life, love them until we place them in a forever home, and give a wonderful family a new family member.
Fostering is the foundation of rescue, please consider it. If you are interested in fostering, please indicate it on this application and a Rescue Representative will contact you to discuss the program in more detail and answer your questions. If you are approved to foster we will place foster(s) in your home that fit with your family and experience level. Thank you for considering saving the life of an Italian Greyhound!
